Living. Simplfied. 16 Places to Donate Your Unwanted Items When Doing a Closet Cleanout.jpg

We’ve all heard the mantra reduce, reuse, recycle. So how can you make a positive impact on the environment and in someone else’s life all at once? Fortunately, there are simple ways you can donate your clothes and other household items to help save the planet, and simultaneously, help people in need.

Below, we’ve compiled a list for you to consider, but please, do your due diligence and call the organizations to make sure they are accepting the types of donations you have (links provided!). And only donate items that are clean and in good working order. Many of the donation sites listed below will come to your home to pick up the items you have to donate, if you have large, bulky items.

If you are interested in donating locally, consider calling the following places to see if they accept donations:

Your child’s school

Local libraries

Animal shelters

Thrift shops

Religious Organizations

Homeless Shelters

Shelters for Women and Children

Community Outreach Centers

And if you want to get rid of your donations right away, look online for local freecycle groups. You can post a few photos and your address, and I guarantee you your items will be gone before the end of the day!

No matter the charity you choose, or the way you choose to donate your unwanted items, remember your unused clothes and other household items will bring a lot of joy to someone in need. So, gather your family members, go through your items (clothes, toys, baby items and sports equipment are easy places to start), set up your donation box in your garage, and gather those items! Your home will feel lighter and so will you.
