10 Things You Should Throw Out of Your Fridge Right Now

It happens to all of us. We had a great idea for a dinner, then life got in the way, and the ingredients start to fester in the fridge. Or maybe we brought in dinner, and put the leftovers in the fridge, but no one has been around to finish them off. One of the keys to keeping your fridge organized is to eliminate the food we aren’t eating. Let’s open the fridge (and the freezer too!) and get to work! You’ll be doing yourself and your family members a favor, and you’ll make room for the items everyone enjoys eating.

Here’s what you should eliminate right now:

Expired condiments

Opened cans of food

Leftovers more than two days old

Herbs that are slimy

Tomatoes and other vegetables that have wrinkled and gone soft

Opened stock or broth

Lemons and limes that have shriveled

Random food gifts that you’ll never eat

Any food with mildew

Raw meat, poultry or fish that is older than two days

So check those expired by dates, open those week-old leftover containers, grab your trash bin and start throwing away the ick. By the way, at Living. Simplified., we are BIG fans of menu planning to help avoid food waste. Another great strategy? Shop your pantry and freezer when it’s time for dinner. You never know what’s waiting to be eaten!
