Creative Small Bathroom Storage Ideas

When living in an apartment or a small house, chances are you will have a small bathroom to contend with. But how do you keep it organized and decluttered when it has to hold so many items, from toiletries to makeup to towels? Read more for our most creative small bathroom storage ideas.

Step 1: Edit. When preparing to declutter and organize your bathroom, the first step is to edit through all of your items and choose what you want to keep and what can be discarded. From expired medicines to products you no longer use to extra sets of towels, getting rid of unwanted and unneeded items will free up space in your bathroom for the items you actually use and need to store in your bathroom. If you have limited space in your bathroom, this step is key to staying organized and knowing where all of your items reside.

Step 2: Think vertically. If you have a smaller bathroom and are struggling to find a place for all of your bathroom-related items, then think vertically! From floating shelves on the wall to an etagere above the toilet, taking advantage of wall space is an excellent way to increase your storage. Etageres can have open shelving, drawers or even cabinets, so think wisely before purchasing one for your own home. Consider whether or not you want your items on display or to be hidden away. Using an etagere can add functionality to your bathroom where it didn't exist previously and allows you to keep frequently used items like toilet paper and clean towels, easily accessible.

Step 3: Use baskets. Another way to organize your small bathroom is to incorporate larger baskets placed on the floor. If near the toilet, the basket can hold extra toilet paper. If elsewhere in the bathroom, a decorative basket can hold towels.

Step 4: Use the door. You might also want to consider adding an organizer to the back of the bathroom door. The organizer can hold anything from toiletries, to small hand towels, to medications and so much more.

Step 5: Add hooks. Adding hooks to the bathroom wall or the back of the door is a great way to hang your wet towels, your pajamas and your bathrobe.

Step 6: Use trays. If you have a counterspace next to your sink, use a decorative tray to corral the items together, keeping only those items that you use every day right at your fingertips.

Step 7: Categorize and label. Using bins under the sink or on the shelves, categorize your items by putting similar items together. Don’t forget to label the bin so you know exactly what’s inside.

Step 8: Add drawers. Take advantage of the height under your sink and use stackable drawers to hold items that you don’t use regularly.

Step 9: Add a cart. Slim rolling carts are a great way to add additional storage space in your bathroom, even in just a sliver of space between the sink and the toilet.

Step 10: Add drawer organizers. For that added touch, add drawer organizers to the inside of your vanity drawers to keep everything inside neatly organized.

When you follow these steps, it’s easy to keep a small bathroom well-stocked and well-organized. Edit out what you don’t need, have fun and be creative and in no time you’ll be able to creative a beautiful and organized bathroom.
