How To Organizer Your College Closet and Dresser

If you’re lucky, you’ll have an actual full size closet in your dorm room. For others, you may only have an armoire, like pictured above. Definitely not a lot of space to keep your clothes! These tips and tricks are great for organizing your dorm closet or armoire. And they’re also handy for anyone who has a small closet, whether you live in a dorm, an apartment, or an old home with small closets.

It doesn’t matter where you’re going to college, chances are you’re going to have a tiny closet! Make the most of the space by being creative about your storage solutions, what you bring to school, and how frequently you’ll be doing your laundry.

Knowing the best dorm closet organization tips is essential to your dorm experience and can really influence how you live in your small space (and with your roommate!).

Closet. Only hang up the necessary items: clothes that wrinkle easily, dresses, some of your shirts. Be sure to use slim hangers which take up less space. And be sure to organize your closet by putting like items together. You can even go the next step and color coordinate the items within each category. It will make it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Dresser. Keep your casual items like t-shirts, bulky items like jeans, and your athletic wear folded in your dresser.

Seasonal clothing. Store seasonal clothing in under-bed storage bins.

Bins. Be creative where you can put bins in your dorm room. From under the bed to under the mini fridge to on the top shelf of your closet or on top of your armoire, bins give you instant hidden storage for your items.

Shoe rack. Using a multi-level shoe rack in the bottom of your closet will help to corral your shoes so you always know where to find them.

No matter what you do, keep things simple and as organized as possible. When it’s laundry day, be sure to put items back in their proper spot to make it easier to find them next time.
